The emergency services, NHS services, local authority departments and voluntary organisations must have plans to enable them to respond to a large scale emergency 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Preparing for an emergency and dealing with an emergency involves the police, fire services, NHS, hospital trusts, ambulance trusts, Clinical Commissioning Groups, local authorities and other agencies working closely together to ensure that any major incident can be dealt with in an effective manner.

What Is An Emergency?

An emergency can be:

  • An event or situation which threatens serious damage to human welfare.
  • An event or situation which threatens serious damage to the environment.
  • War or terrorism which threatens serious damage to security.

The purpose of planning for emergencies is to ensure that as an organisation we can provide an effective response to any major incident or emergency and to ensure that the organisation returns to normal services as quickly as possible.

Our key emergency planning documents will be added to this site soon.
