Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GWH NHS FT), the University of Bath and Swindon Clinical Commissioning Group (SCCG) are working together on a project to understand births and the choices that pregnant women make.  The project focuses on women who have previously experienced a caesarean and are now pregnant again.

The project began in March, with a pilot phase, led by Anna Rarity, Quality Manager at SCCG, to gain further understanding about the types of issues that are discussed and considered.  The full project will begin in May when two Health Psychology University of Bath students will be working closely with the maternity team at GWH NHS FT and pregnant women using the service.

In this first pilot stage of the project we have been observing what currently happens in clinics to help us develop appropriate questions to ask in the main study. We have also been observing consultant clinics to listen to conversations with pregnant women and the plan that is agreed.  Informal conversations have been taking place in the Women’s Health Outpatient department with pregnant women.  As well as listening to pregnant women’s views and experiences we will also be having conversations with maternity staff to help us understand their views.

If you would like to share an experience or just to be in touch with the project, please call our Communications and Engagement Team (Ruth or Sally) on 01793 683700 or email them This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
