When a GP suggests that a patient sees a specialist for further care, investigations or treatment, the referral is often sent to the Referral Support Centre.

The team in the Referral Support Centre will get in touch with the patient to offer advice on the various options available to them and, once a decision has been made, book the appointment.

Patients may be offered a number of different options to choose from, depending on consultant availability, waiting times and nearest available hospitals.
